What it costs: Quoted by your actual water and household size, after we test the hardness rather than assuming it. Softener, conditioner and reverse-osmosis are separate decisions and we price them separately. See typical water softeners & filtration pricing.
Signs you need water softeners & filtration
- White scale on faucets, glass, and shower doors
- Soap that won't lather; stiff, dingy laundry
- Water heaters and fixtures failing early
- Well water with sediment, odor, or staining
How we handle it
Test your water
We measure hardness (and on wells, iron, pH, and sediment) before recommending a system.
Right-size the system
Softener grain capacity matched to household size; RO for drinking water; well treatment staged for your specific water.
Install & loop in
Installed at the main with a loop so it protects the whole home, heaters included.
What to know about water softeners & filtration in Arizona
Phoenix sits on some of the hardest water in the country. Anthem, Scottsdale, and Glendale routinely run 16-20 grains per gallon. That hardness is dissolved calcium and magnesium, and it's why your glass shower door fogs permanently, your fixtures crust white, and your water heater's life gets cut short. Hard water scales the inside of tanks and tankless heat exchangers. A tankless unit in untreated Valley water can scale to failure in a few years without softening or annual descaling. A softener isn't a luxury here. It's heater protection that pays for itself.
Softeners work by ion exchange. Resin beads swap the calcium and magnesium for sodium, then regenerate now and then by flushing brine. The key spec is grain capacity matched to your hardness and household size, and you want a metered head that regenerates on actual water used, not a timer. Timers waste salt and water regenerating while you're on vacation. For sodium-restricted households, potassium chloride drops right in, and a softener loop or bypass lets you keep an outside hose bib on hard water for plants, which don't want the sodium.
Softening and filtration fix different problems, and people mix them up. A softener removes hardness. It does nothing for chlorine taste, sediment, or contaminants. For drinking water, a reverse-osmosis unit under the sink strips out dissolved solids, chlorine, and a wide range of contaminants, and RO actually runs better downstream of a softener because the membrane lasts longer when it isn't fighting scale. Whole-house carbon filtration handles chlorine and taste at every tap. The right setup is a stack built around what's actually in your water, which is why we test first.
High country changes the math entirely. Flagstaff and Prescott homes, especially cabins on private wells, aren't fighting municipal hardness. They're dealing with whatever the aquifer hands them: iron that stains fixtures rust-orange, a sulfur smell from hydrogen sulfide, sediment, low pH that eats copper pipe, and the real chance of bacteria or nitrates. Well water needs a lab test before you buy a thing, because a softener does nothing for iron bacteria or a pH problem. We size well treatment off the test results. Sometimes that means an iron filter and a neutralizer ahead of any softener at all.
