Garbage Disposal Repair in Kachina Village, AZ

Kachina Village is one of the few High Country communities on a real water and sewer district, so a disposal here drains to a main rather than a septic tank, and that widens your options compared with the well-and-septic country around it.

Kachina Village homeowners call Liberty for garbage disposal repair because we're local to the high country, licensed, and answer the phone 24/7. Kachina Village sits around 6,800 feet just south of Flagstaff off I-17, and it is one of the few High Country communities on a real water and sewer district rather than wells and septic. That changes what goes wrong and how we fix it. We know the difference, we work here regularly, and we will quote you fair before we start. Done right the first time.

Kachina Village is served by the Kachina Village Improvement District, a Coconino County operation that has provided water and wastewater to the community since 1965, drawing groundwater from the Coconino Regional Aquifer and running a gravity sewer to its own treatment plant. That matters to you as a homeowner because it draws a clear line: the district handles the mains and the meter, and everything from there into your house is yours. When something goes wrong, knowing which side of that line the problem sits on saves you both time and money, and it is the first thing we sort out on a service call here.

What we see on Kachina Village plumbing

  • Freeze damage at 6,800 feet on hose bibs, garage lines, and pipes in uninsulated crawlspaces.
  • Service lines and shut-offs between the district meter and the house, where responsibility changes hands.

How a Kachina Village garbage disposal repair call goes

  1. Unjam or diagnose

Many ‘dead’ disposals just need the reset and a manual free-up.

  2. Repair or replace

Leaks from the housing mean replacement; drain leaks we re-seal.

  3. Check the drain

We make sure the trap and branch drain are clear while we're under there.

Garbage Disposal Repair in Kachina Village, FAQ

My disposal just hums, is it dead?
Usually a jam. We free it and hit the reset. We only replace it if the motor's gone.
Best disposal for hard water?
Stainless grind components hold up better here. We'll point you to a model that lasts.
My disposal just hums and won't spin. Did the motor die?
Usually not. Something's jammed in the grind chamber. Cut the power, use the hex wrench in the socket on the bottom to free the impellers by hand, then press the red reset button underneath. If it spins free after that, you're fine.
What should I never put down my disposal?
Grease, coffee grounds, eggshells, and fibrous or starchy waste like celery, corn husks, and potato peels. In our hard water especially, that stuff congeals and builds up in the trap and line. Always run cold water during and after grinding, and treat the disposal as a scrap-catcher, not a trash can.
Is a more powerful disposal worth it?
Generally yes. The 1/3 HP builder-grade units jam constantly and wear out fast. A 3/4 HP or 1 HP unit with stainless components handles tougher waste without stalling and lasts a lot longer, and the better models are insulated so they run quieter.
I installed a new disposal and now my dishwasher won't drain. Why?
New disposals ship with the dishwasher inlet knockout plug still in place, and it has to come out during install or the dishwasher can't drain through it. It's a common DIY miss. We also make sure there's a proper high loop so dirty water can't back-siphon into the dishwasher.
There's water leaking under the disposal. Can it be fixed?
Depends where it's leaking. Leaks at the sink flange or the discharge connections are repairable, and we'll reseal or replace the fitting. But if it's leaking from the bottom shell of the unit itself, the internal seal has failed and the disposal needs replacing. That housing isn't serviceable.
Is my water problem the district's responsibility or mine?
Generally the Kachina Village Improvement District is responsible for the mains and the meter, and you are responsible for the service line and everything from the meter into the house. That is the first thing we figure out when we come out, because there is no sense paying us for work the district should be handling. If it is on their side, we will tell you and you can call them.
